Code of Ethics

The Code ensures that consumers are served by requiring REALTORS® to cooperate with each other in furthering clients' best interests.

The REALTOR® Code of Ethics distinguishes REALTORS® from licensed agents and brokers who do not join the association. All REALTORS® pledge to uphold the principles contained on this foundational document. The Code of Ethics outlines a REALTOR’S® obligations to clients, colleagues, and the general public. Anyone who believes a REALTOR® has violated the Code of Ethics may file a complaint.

All REALTOR Members Required to Complete Code of Ethics Training every 3 years

The TREC Legal I & II courses required to renew a Texas real estate license no longer satisfies the NAR requirement for REALTOR® Code of Ethics training. This change was adopted by the NAR Board of Directors in 2019.  The NAR board also extended how often the training must be taken from two years to three years.  The current cycle is through 12/31/2024.

Here are the different ways to complete the required training.  Please note those courses that do not offer offer TREC Continuing Education are generally free. Fees are required for courses that offer CE credit.

How to Find Your Ethics Training Status

NAR has an online lookup to check your ethics training status: nar.realtor/my-account (login required). You can find your NRDS # (or M1 #) in our info hub if you login to our website dashboard.

If you have taken an qualified ethics course from an outside source, please send certificate of completion to admin@centraltexascommercialrealtor.org.
